Japan cherry blossoms 2027: when to expect them
The 2027 dates are not known yet — they depend on the winter and early spring weather. But the past is a good guide: in Tokyo, first bloom has come around Mar 20 on average over the last 10 years, and in 30 years it has never been earlier than March 14 or later than March 31.

When will official forecasts come out?
Private weather companies in Japan, such as the Japan Meteorological Corporation (tenki.jp) and Weathernews, publish cherry blossom forecasts for the coming spring, starting in winter (around January to February) and updating them regularly until the blossoms open. The Japan Meteorological Agency stopped issuing bloom forecasts in 2010 and now records the actual dates, which is the data this site uses.
How to plan before the forecasts
- Book the region, keep the dates flexible. The difference between an early and a late year can be two weeks or more.
- For Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka, the last week of March and the first week of April have the best odds. See the week-by-week guide.
